Location is one of our hotels strengths as the saying goes ‘if you got it then flaunt it’. We are a short stroll from the centre of the city, an extension of Northgate St, halfway along London Rd. The rear of the hotel looks over our courtyard garden and carpark to Gloucester Royal Hospital. The front looks onto the residential London Rd which was the final part of the old Roman Rd, Ermine St.

To the North of the hotel in London Rd is Hillfield gardens, which has a C13th chantry, and two stone conduits which used to sit in the medieval city centre. Opposite was the medieval hospice and leper colony rebuilt in and now a retirement home, here there is  a C14th chapel used as shelter for troops during the siege of Gloucester. Above this site the largest ‘plague pit’ in Europe was excavated dating back to the Roman period.

Towards the city London Rd has some classic Victorian Georgian Edwardian and Queen Anne architecture. The England’s Glory pub is 50 metres along London Road towards the city and is the closest place for meals. About a 500 metre stroll at the city end of London Road is a garage, chemist, newsagents, bookmakers, two restaurants and a fish and chip shop, and a Tesco Express.

From here the Cathedral, Guildhall, GL1, Gloucester Rugby Club, the Docks, Quays and museums are readily walkable. The bus and train stations are just to the left of London Rd.

The Edward is ideal for a number of business sites: Gloucester Business Park, Barnwood, GCHQ, RAF Innsworth, Eastern Avenue, Royal Hospital, Gloucester Quays and Gloucestershire University Oxstalls campus.
