The Edward Hotel is the only privately run independent hotel in the centre of Gloucester |
|
|
The hotel is grade 2 listed. It was originally built as three terraced town houses between 1796 and 1830, and was converted to an hotel in 1971. |
| |
| To the rear is a large car park a real bonus. The car park is walled and accessed off the rear lane, quite secluded for a city centre, an added bonus. There is no parking charge for guests who are welcome to park early on arrival, late on departure days. |
| |
| The outlook to the front is residential, over London Road the old medieval and Roman route to the city. Like all city centre route the road is busier during peak times. All front facing rooms have secondary glazing. To the rear the outlook is quite open, part residential, part over the grounds of Gloucester Royal hospital. |
| |
| The Edward Hotel offers a blend of personality and professionalism. There is a distinct mix of quality and value for money. Emphasis is upon accommodation rather than fine dining and upon peace and quiet rather than alcohol and functions. Our location, out of earshot of the city clubs and pubs, is another bonus. |
| |
| The bar is suitable for a quiet socialble drink or night cap - we have no noisy functions and do not run a late bar unless the whole hotel is booked by one group. The bar generally closes around 11pm. |
| |
| The Lounge retains the Victorian open fireplace and parquet flooring. Chilly winter nights can be kept at bay by the crackle and woodsmoke from the log fire. The lounge closes with the bar at approx' 11.00pm. |
|
| There are 25 smart ensuite bedrooms with High Definition TV, with 140 digital satalite TV / radio, and free WiFi. |
|
| The dining room gallery has a theme. The pictures rattle the brain cells of many sleepy breakfast goers. Help is at hand with cryptic and other clues on the dining tables. For those that crack the theme another more challenging brain teaser awaits. This has been solved without aid, twice, since Nov 2008. |
| |
| Breakfast is served till 9.00a.m. midweek, 9.30a.m. at weekends. Start times at weekends is 7.30 midweek start time is 7.00.a.m, earlier by arrangement. |
|
| The corridors have been turned into a feature. They form an informative photogrphic gallery of Gloucester's History and historic buildings and interesting events. |
| |
The mauture garden is secluded and provides an ideal background for photos. There is a surprising amount of birdlife. Watch out for the sparrow hawks that nest at the hospital. In the summer we can serve breakfast on the patio.
|
| |
| There is a large lock up that can be used to keep cycles in over night. |
| |
| We have chosen to operate as a two star hotel where the emphasis is on accommodation and not food. If you are considering eating in it is only fair to point out that we do not offer a lively restaurant atmosphere, therefore you should be prepared to be the only table eating. |

|
| |
Our ethos ... |
is that the guest should arrive knowing pretty much what to expect - we are open and honest about what we offer. We shy away from using lots of descriptive adjectives since one persons 'luxurious' is another persons nightmare! What you see here is what you get. |

| `If you don't have the time or inclination to use a pool or a la carte restaurant and wish to save on the hidden costs, yet wish to keep the style and smartness, then consider a two star hotel, consider us.' |
